Sports are a social phenomenon. In this class, we apply a sociological lens to critically evaluate the role of sports in society and investigate what sports can tell us about our social worlds. By doing so, students are encouraged to challenge taken-for-granted assumptions about the sports we know and love, and explore how the world of sports is more complex than first meets the eye.
SOC 101: Social Problems and Policies: Sociology of Sport, Indiana University
Summer 2024
This course provides an introduction to sociology through the lens of sport. Student learn about key topics in sociology such as socialization, stratification, and media by drawing on sports as examples to understand these social processes and more.
Social Psychology
SOC 230: Individual and Society, Indiana University
Fall 2022
At the center of sociology is the notion that “self” arises from interaction with others. Who we are, our identities, and the symbols and meanings we use to describe and understand the world around us are all products of social interaction. Through this class students are introduced to theories and practice of sociological social psychology.
